Connecticut mature driver improvement – Accident Prevention Course is an online defensive driving class for car insurance discounts in the state of Connecticut. Many states have adopted the accident prevention insurance discount driving course for ages 55 – 60 and up. Some car insurance discounts are for drivers age 50 and over.

Connecticut State Law (Title 38a Sec. 38a-683) mandates a premium discount for a private non-fleet automobile under an automobile liability or physical damage insurance policy for any principal operator who has attained the age of 60 and has submitted proof of a successful completion of an accident prevention course approved by the CT DMV.
The minimum discount is 5 percent and shall apply to the premium charges for the automobile for at least 24 months. Some insurance companies provide a discount of more than 5 percent. Contact your insurance company for more information. Some auto insurance companies may honor higher discounts for up to 24 months.
If you meet the requirements for this premium discount, by law you cannot be denied the minimum discount regardless of your driving history.
For drivers less than 60 years old, the law does not require insurance companies to provide the premium discount as a result of taking the approved course. However, some insurance companies may voluntarily give a discount to those who provide proof of the successful completion of such a course. Contact your insurance company for more information.

Connecticut Auto (Car) Insurance Requirements
Auto insurance is one of the most frequently used types of personal insurance and is required in Connecticut in order to drive legally. Connecticut law (C.S.G. 14-112) requires:
$25,000 in coverage per person per accident for bodily injury liability
$50,000 in coverage per accident for bodily injury liability
$25,000 in coverage per accident for property damage liability
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage of at least $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident (see Conn. Gen. Stat. Section 38a-336 or Bulletin PC-86 for additional information)
Insurance companies to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) of canceled policies
(Drivers are strongly urged to consider higher limits).
The two types of auto insurance are:
Liability Insurance
Bodily injury liability protects you against the claims of others hurt in an accident for which you were at fault. Their claims may include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Property damage liability insurance pays for damage you cause to the property of others. This includes damages to vehicles and other property such as walls, fences and equipment.
Property Damage
Collision coverage pays for physical damage to your car as the result of your auto colliding with an object. This coverage is not required by law, but may be required by a lending institution or leasing company.
Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to your auto from almost all other causes, including fire, severe weather, vandalism, floods and theft. It is not required by law.
