Did you know that you may be eligible to complete a defensive driving course in New Jersey once every 3 years to maintain reduced insurance rates? You can also take a course once every 5 years to remove points incurred on your driving record. While those may seem like appealing incentives, taking a defensive driving course in an uncomfortable classroom setting can be an inconvenient drag.

Most road accidents are caused by driver error. To reduce the likelihood of being involved in an accident you need to understand the concept of “defensive driving.” This course will provide you with standard accident-preventing techniques.
Upon completion of the defensive driving course:
- Two (2) points may be removed* from the accumulated points you currently have on your license. *IMPORTANT NOTE: Point credits for State-approved, New Jersey defensive driving course. You may only receive a two point reduction once every 5 years and only if there are points on your driving record at the time you complete the course.

Some municipal traffic courts may allow you to remove a traffic summons or traffic ticket by voluntarily taking our defensive driving course. Check with the court in which you’ve received the traffic citation or court traffic summons to inquire of opting to volunteer for the defensive course option prior to registering.
